Day 19 – Dubois to Shishomi

July 1, 2009

105 miles to Shishomi and it was blisteringly hot outside.  We had a 50 mile continuous climb at about 1-2% uphill grade and it was a doozy.  After we reached the top we got to descend for about 55 miles into the Shishomi.  The entire town looked as if it had been abandoned except for the drive-thru liquor store, the bar, the gas station, and the senior citizens center that we stayed in.  It was an erie sight to see but we were so grateful to interact with the locals and have a great meal.  The people were so nice and took good care of us.  We played pool and had a few beers at the local establishment and hit the sleeping bags to get fresh for the next big day of the Journey….to Casper, to civilization!
